Promised safe-conduct to Constance and burned anyway. A century later, when Luther was pressed at Leipzig in 1519, his opponent Eck triumphantly forced him to admit that some of Hus’s condemned articles were in fact “most Christian and evangelical.” Luther later said: “We are all Hussites without knowing it.”
